A renowned estate the "champagne of Ceylon"one of our favourites!, a light cup with an exquisitely rounded nature.
Courtlodge is in the Nuwara Eliya district of Sri Lanka and has consistently produced some of the best tea in Sri Lanka over the years.
This masterpiece has just the right acidity and a sublime lively flavour, notes that has made “Ceylon” teas favoured the world over.
In February the north-west monsoons create a rain shadow effect on the western side of Nuwara Eliya (where Courtlodge is situated) resulting in peak seasonal quality during this time.
Sri Lanka/ Nuwara Eliya
Sri Lanka is the largest single exporter of tea in the world. The country exports some 450 million pounds annually grown on half a million acres of land.
Until 1869 Sri Lanka was principally a coffee exporter but a coffee blight wiped out the island's coffee bushes. The area was replanted with tea by the British to serve to burgeoning tea market in Europe, Britain and the British colonies. During late 1960's to early 1980's government ownership began to take its toll.
There was little re-investment in the upgrading of factories and maintenance of the bushes. As a result, by the end of the 80's, yield per acre had fallen dramatically.
Luckily this has not had an effect on quality for the high altitude tea estates.
An outstanding example from this world famous estate having a bright coppery colour and an impeccable flavour that lifts the spirit any time of day.

This is a lovely light Ceylon tea. I brew it a bit strong, but only for 3 to 4 minutes - the flavour changes after that. I love the choice and quality of teas at TeaCakes. I order from them often.
Quite a tannic tea when brewed strongly (as I like it), with a delicate flavour otherwise.
As usual, order fulfilled promptly and to our entire satisfaction.
This is my main tea and I love it. Reminds me of our stay at the Hill Club in Nuwara Eliya.
Was after unbroken orange pekoe which I discovered after a visit to a Sri Lankan tea plantation on holiday. This is a decent substitute but still yearning for the real thing
